What is CBD?
Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid, one of over one hundred identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants. Our CBD is derived from the Hemp plant “Cannabis Sativa”. In the European Union, few variations are permitted to be cultivated, provided they are registered in the EU’s ‘Common Catalog of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species’ and the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content does not exceed 0.2 %
The current regulation for the UK for THC being less < 0.2% refers basically to the cultivation of hemp (for which a license is required), hemp products, such as hemp seeds and hemp oil derived by cold pressing of hemp seeds. This does not apply directly to CBD products as they are derived by CO2 supercritical extraction method from the leaves and flowers of the plant. There is this gray area, a limit of 1 mg of THC in any given (package) CBD product.
The difference between Full Spectrum CBD and Broad Spectrum CBD
Full Spectrum CBD oil is obtained by CO2 extraction (Supercritical) and subsequently decarboxylated. During this process, the CBD oil is gently heated and CBDA molecules are converted into active CBD. The oil contains all herbal active ingredients as well as cannabinoids, including THC, phenols, flavonoids, and terpenes.
Broad Spectrum CBD is the same oil and undergoes the same process. Lighter Leaf Broad Spectrum CBD additionally has the THC removed during the extraction process to provide the best of both worlds, good entourage effect, multiple cannabinoids, phenols, flavonoids, and terpenes but without THC.
Our Full Spectrum* and Broad Spectrum CBD is legal for sale in UK and many EU/EEC countries.
* Seek advice from your employer or regulatory entity if you are subject to regular drug testing. Some parts of the hemp plant, seeds, seed oil, and extracted oil, may contain trace amounts of THC or be converted by your body to THC and detected by specific types of tests. Lighter Leaf cannot be held liable for failed drug tests.
